Gusty winds and blowing snow will be continuing concerns today after snow and ice fell across the state Friday. The following snowfall totals were reported in south central Iowa:
Pella – 5”, drifting
Knoxville – 5”, drifting
Indianola – 4.8”
Wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour may make travel hazardous again today, and will bring much colder air, as overnight lows tonight through Tuesday morning will remain near or below zero, with much colder wind chills possible as well, dipping to as low as 20 below zero Sunday morning.
Residents are reminded to use caution and allow space for state and county crews to clear roads. Those who need to go outside during the arctic burst of air are also reminded to avoid prolonged exposure, as wind chills this cold can cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes.
