A member of the Pella Christian 1994 championship baseball team and the only Eagle to take swings in the majors is being honored for his career in baseball.

Kory DeHaan is being inducted into the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame today in Cedar Rapids.

DeHaan says he’s thankful for the chance to come back to Iowa after a decade of coaching for the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, which followed a brief stint playing in the MLB in 2000 and 2002.

“I’m just very honored to have something like this be attached to me,” he says. “I know completely that it just wasn’t about me, it was about our whole team coming together and doing something special that summer (1994).”

DeHaan was a key member of the 1994 state champion Pella Christian baseball team and followed his time in Pella at Morningside College, before he was a 7th round draft pick in 1997. He played for the San Diego Padres during his time in the majors.
