Indianola Parks and Rec is hosting a Brown Bag Lunch and Learn event next week, discussing the orphan trains bringing children to Iowa. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, over 200,000 children were sent on trains from the east coast to the midwest to live with new families. Author Carol Bodensteiner will discuss the orphan train history, as well as the stigma associated with being an orphan train rider. The lunch and learn asks that attendees bring their own lunch, with coffee and dessert provided. The event will take place at the Indianola Activity Center on Wednesday, February 5th from 11:30 to 12:30.
