Indianola Wrestling Falls in Nailbiter to Norwalk for Conference Title

With the Little Hawkeye Conference championship on the line, the Indianola wrestling squad fell just short of rival Norwalk 29-25. The Indians picked up points in the lower weights as Bowen Downey at 106, Cael Meacham at 113, and Ryder Downey at 120 all picked up wins. The Warriors then took most of the mid-weight matches, before Nick Bonnano and Sean Cunningham won at 160 and 170 respectively, and Miles Berg at 195 and Jaylin Smith at 220 rounded out the Indians winners. Both squads won 7 matches, however Norwalk earned a pair of wins by fall while the Indians only got one. Indianola will now turn their attention to the Little Hawkeye Conference Tournament, taking place tomorrow at Indianola High School.

Indianola Basketball Travels to Pella Christian

Making their second trip to the Tulip City in a week, the Indianola basketball squads will take on Pella Christian in a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader. The Indians swept the Eagles in their first matchup back in December, with the girls winning 55-29 and the boys pulling out a close one 72-68. The conference standings have only gotten more muddled since then on the boys side, with the Eagles two games out of first but took out first place Norwalk on Tuesday, while the Indians sit a half game out of the top. Head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports there are no easy games at this time of the year.

“It’s the Little Hawkeye Conference, we had a huge one on Tuesday, we’ll have a huge one again on Friday, we can’t get too high, we can’t get too low, and hopefully we can get after it in practice to get us ready.”

Action can be heard live tonight on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 6pm, with tip-off scheduled for 6:15.
