Several area high school jazz bands will compete at the state jazz festival today. Pella will host Knoxville and PCM in the Iowa High School Music Association event, with two bands from Pella performing as well. Indianola will travel with two bands to Norwalk as well. Pella High School Jazz I Director Dameon Place says this weekend will kick off a series of festivals and concerts, leading up to the Iowa Jazz Championships in early April. Bands this Saturday will be rated by a panel of judges in an attempt to earn a Division I “Superior” rating.
