Indianola Second, Pella Sixth in Conference Wrestling Meet
The Little Hawkeye Conference wrestling teams converged at Indianola High School for the annual league meet Saturday. The host Indians walked away with a second place finish with 212.5 points. Taking home conference championships for the Indians were Ryder Downey at 113 pounds, Nick Bonanno at 160 pounds and Miles Berg at 195 pounds. Bowen Downey (106), Brennan Meacham (152), and Sean Cunningham (170) were all runners-up in their weight classes. Head coach Clint Manny tells KNIA Sports the Indians success at this point of the season comes down to buying in.
“We have faith in what we are teaching the guys, and the guys who have bought into it thus far, and the successes we have had at this point have come down to trusting what we are doing. Just keep doing what we are doing at this point, staying healthy is important at this time of year, keeping their bodies and their minds in the right place.”
Pella placed 6th out of the 7 teams with a team score of 110. Ryan Hancock (113) and Ryan Van Donselaar (145) both earned 2nd place finishes in their weight classes. Peyton Ritzert (120), Nathan Born (152), Braydon Peterson (285) all placed 4th in their groupings. Norwalk won both the regular season championship and meet title with 247.5 points.
