The Simpson Storm women’s and men’s basketball teams fell short at Loras Saturday afternoon, with the women dropping a 76-72 heartbreaker, and the men falling 85-67 in a doubleheader heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Storm women got ahead early on #12 Loras, playing stifling defense earning a 23-17 lead after the first and building a lead as high as 10 before it began to even out to a 37-32 lead at halftime. The Duhawk offense woke up in the third however, nailing seven three point shots to begin to pull away from the Storm leading 57-53 after the third. With the game coming down to the final seconds, the Storm trailed by just three points with seconds remaining when Claire Johnson was fouled on a three-point attempt with a chance to tie it. A missed free throw however doomed the Storm, as Loras hit 16-19 of their foul shots to seal the win. Jenna Taylor led the Storm in scoring with 16. The Storm men did not fare as well as the women, as they fell behind early and were never able to close the gap on the Duhawks. The Storm fell behind by double digits early in the contest, and crept close by keeping the deficit close but no smaller than six throughout the first half. Loras pulled away in the second half, shooting 51% from the field and 50% from long range. Adam Reiter and Kyle Wagner each had 19 in the loss. The Storm women are now 15-5 and 7-4 in conference play, while the men are 10-10 and 4-7. They will next play Saturday at Central.
