Indianola Wrestling Splits Double Dual at Valley

The Indianola wrestling squad split a double dual against Valley and Ankeny Centennial Thursday night, taking down the host Tigers 36-24 and falling to the Jaguars 34-31. Picking up wins for the Indians included Ryder Downey at 113lbs, Cooper Belt at 120lbs, Camden Lloyd at 138lbs, Nick Bonnano at 160lbs, and Miles Berg at 195lbs. The Indians will next wrestle at the State Dual Regionals at Johnston High School next Wednesday evening.

Indianola Basketball Travels to Grinnell

The Indianola basketball squads play Grinnell for the first time this season, after an earlier scheduled matchup was delayed due to winter weather. The Indians girls are trying to recover from a Tuesday loss to Dallas Center-Grimes, and won’t have an easy go of it with the Tigers undefeated in conference play and ranked 11th in class 4A. The Indians boys are on a four game winning streak and trying to build off of a dominant 37 point win against DCG on Tuesday, and head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports one of the many reasons the Indians have won 13 of their last 14 games has been the growth of freshman Drew Kingery.

“He has grown up so much. That’s the kid that we see all the time, and we know he’s so talented. I think he’s got to a point where he’s stopped thinking and just playing basketball, because man he’s been huge for us. I love coaching Drew Kingery because you just know he’s going to be attacking at all times.”

The games tonight can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 6pm, with tip-off scheduled for 6:15.
