During the most recent Knoxville City Council meeting Tuesday, the council received and accepted bids for phase two of the Competine Trail Project. Currently the trail runs from Marion County Park to the south side of the Knoxville Hospital. City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News phase two of the project will start on the south side of the hospital and continue across Highway 14 going east and end at 5th street. He says the path will basically follow Competine Creek. Adams says he believes the second phase will be a beautiful addition to the trail, complemented by the amount of trees in the area. He says the phase adds basically another mile to the trail with construction expected to begin this spring. The council awarded the contract and approved the certificate of insurance to Absolute Concrete Construction, Inc. of Slater, Iowa for approximately $970,000.
