With the Indianola YMCA in the midst of their annual fundraising campaign during the month of February, Executive Director Heather Hulen wants Indianola residents to know that no matter the financial situation for the YMCA it will continue to serve the area. Hulen tells KNIA News one of the most frequent questions she receives about the YMCA is it is a business or charity.

“We are a non-profit, and we are a charity. So because we have charitable status, what we are doing should make us proud. So making a donation to strengthen our community is important, and it’s who we are. It’s no secret around the financial situation of the Indianola YMCA, but we are not going to stop serving the area because of the financial situation. We are trying to be more efficient and effective in turning the ship around, and making sure we are using our dollars the way they should be.”

Hulen also said one of the best ways to help the YMCA is to take advantage of their services, whether that be through a membership or participating in their programs.
