Work continues on the budget for the next fiscal year for the city of Indianola, and there will continue to be a focus on expanding the staff of the police and fire departments. Director of Finance Andy Lent tells KNIA News the city hired two additional police officers and another clerk along with three new firefighters, and the 2021 budget will see another increase in staff.

“In FY21, we plan to add two new police officers, who will also need two new vehicles and equipment for the department. We also plan to add an additional librarian and part-time librarian assistant in the budget.”

Lent also said he will be making a presentation to the council at their upcoming work session on February 17th, where residents can get a firsthand look at the proposed budget.
