The Warren County Board of Supervisors met in a special session Tuesday, discussing the alternate bids for additional projects on the base bids. The base bids for the project came back several weeks ago for less than $28 million, but several alternate bids on the project included extra costs. The board considered proposals to excavate an approximate extra 9-10 thousand square feet in the basement, that would cost $650K, a mechanism for keeping snow and ice out of the secure entryway for $71K, and A/V equipment for the Iowa Court System that would cost $634K, but would be reimbursed to the county at an approximate 85-90% rate. If the excavation projects are approved by the board, construction could potentially be delayed by several weeks, and is estimated to begin sometime in April or May. A public hearing on the final plans of the project is scheduled for next Thursday.
