It took about 12 minutes to get going, but the Pella High girls basketball team had plenty of time to pull away from Oskaloosa 61-31 in last night’s class 4A region 6 opener as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Midway through the second quarter, the Indians, who won just one game this season, led Pella 10-7.  The Lady Dutch scored the next 13 points, including eight by Faith Diers, and coach Jerod Garland’s team never trailed again.

“It was a game that was kind of building.  It started like a pebble, and once we got going it was a rock, and then by the fourth quarter it was a boulder.  It was fun to see the girls work through their jitters from their first postseason game, and we settled in and did a lot of things that we wanted to.  The ball movement tonight was phenomenal.”

Madison Naig led three Pella players in double figures with 17 points.  Anna Vander Waal added 11, all in the second half, and Diers scored 10.

Pella improves to 12-10 on the season and will travel to take on Clear Creek-Amana Saturday night.  The Clippers went 17-4 in the regular season and were off last night after receiving a first round bye.
