A burst of spring-like air will continue as temperatures will top well above 50 degrees later today across south central Iowa. While the preview of the upcoming season is welcome, a return to winter-like conditions will soon follow.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch beginning overnight Monday and continuing through early Wednesday morning. Confidence is increasing for moderate to heavy snowfall beginning in the state late tonight, continuing through early Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Initial forecasts indicate between 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected over the 36 hour watch period, with higher amounts possible by Wednesday morning depending on the track of the storm and variance in air temperatures. Wind speeds will likely increase as Tuesday wears on, which could cause travel issues due to blowing snow and reduced visibility. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest weather information.
