The number one scoring team in class 3A during the regular season looked the part as the postseason tipped off last night. Second-ranked Pella was firing on all cylinders in a 95-53 win over Centerville as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Leading just 9-8 midway through the first quarter, the Little Dutch ripped off an 11-0 run to take control. They built the lead to 48-24 at halftime, had the running clock on by the middle of the third quarter, and emptied the bench with more than four minutes left in the game. Coach Derek Schulte was it was a fun night on their home floor.

“I thought we shared the ball extremely well. We had great balance – I think we had eight guys with eight or more points – and we had 24 assists with only four turnovers. Offensively, you can’t ask for much more than that. We were able to get into transition, we have multiple guys who can attack the paint, and I thought our decision making was really good tonight.”

Treyton Sturgeon led the Little Dutch with 14 points and eight rebounds. Logan Shetterly and Grant Nelson each scored 11, and Karl Miller added 10.

Up next for Pella is another home game Thursday night against Grinnell for the district championship. The Tigers beat Knoxville last night in game one of the doubleheader. Earlier this year, Pella swept Grinnell, winning by 19 in late January in Pella and by 35 in the conference finale two weeks ago at Grinnell.
