The Indianola boys basketball squad has had the same rotation from game one of the season to now, in the substate semifinals without changing personnel, starters, or the game plan. The five starters of Tyce Johnson, AJ Toigo, Caden Rehmeier, Blake Kennedy, and Drew Kingery play the majority of the minutes, but with five minutes remaining in each quarter, Kennedy, Kingery, and Remeier exit the game for the three super-subs to enter and wreak havoc. It is the job of senior guard Luke Youmans, along with juniors CJ Keuhl and John McGinnis, to press, force turnovers, and force the other team to play at a frantic pace for the next several minutes. At the beginning of the season, the trio was known for their defense, but as the season has come along, head coach Brett Watson has begun to rely on them putting points on the scoreboard as well.
“Their defense has been highlighted a lot, but they also bring a lot to the table offensively. They are known for getting turnovers, but if they can convert those turnovers into scores that’s when we can get the snowball rolling a bit. It’s great that they can get it done on both the defensive and offensive end.”
