With the first legislative funnel now behind them, state legislators still have work to do before this year’s session comes to an end. State Senator Amy Sinclair tells KNIA/KRLS News she is most proud of being able to get her the classroom behavior bill out of her committee unanimously and through the funnel. Senator Sinclair says the senate has been working on welfare reform since the last funnel date. She says last year the state was fined $1.8 million dollars by the USDA for $40 billion dollars of inappropriate expenditures through the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP. Senator Sinclair says the Senate was instructed to get the issues corrected, so they passed a bill to adjust how the state conducts income verifications and asset verifications so the state does not receive another hefty fine. Senator Sinclair and State Representative Jon Thorup will host their next Town Hall event on Saturday, March 21st at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum at 12:30 p.m. for anyone who would like to learn more about what the legislators have been working on as well as to voice their concerns.
