For a program that has been in rebuilding mode for the past few seasons, the Knoxville Girls Golf Program was and is ready to make the 2020 season a breakthrough campaign. But that planned breakthrough is on hold until at least May due to the high school sports shut down in Iowa. Coach Barry Smith tells KRLS Sports the girls have been putting in the offseason work and doing their part.
Smith:
“To me as a head coach, it’s inspiring to me the girls want to grow at the game and have fun with the game. To have many people to say it’s nice to see some many of the girls play the game and get acclimated to the game was very inspiring to me.”
The Panthers return top player Amy Sullivan, who played at the state meet last spring, plus several other varsity players. The Panthers have already lost eight meets including two home meets at Pine Knolls Country Club.
