The Indianola City Council has issued a letter in response to Mayor Kelly Shaw’s veto of the proposed FY2021 budget earlier this week, after the budget passed unanimously by the council in March.
The letter, which is signed by all six members of the council, states that the 62% projected end fund balance for operational expenses cited by the mayor is incorrect, and currently is projected at 44%, and is currently expected to decrease due to expenses from the COVID-19 pandemic, higher insurance renewals, and repairs to outdated facilities.
The council also states that the tax rate for the city, county, and school district combine to $38.49, compared to just $38.46 for previous years, and a large increase in valuation for the county that is now over $1,000,000,000 among others. View the full letter below.
