The Knoxville Community School District will begin providing continuous learning opportunities for all students starting tomorrow. The learning opportunities can be found on the district’s website. Throughout the closure the district has provided parents with a weekly email titled “The kids are home…now what?” with general learning activities categorized by elementary or secondary levels.Tomorrow, parents and students will find an additional link titled “KCSD Learning Hub” that willI be posted at 8 a.m. On this site, parents and students will be able to click on a grade level and see specific activities for the week that have been designed by the district’s teachers. All students are highly encouraged to take advantage of this learning opportunity.
Teachers will also be available each week to connect with students. Elementary teachers will contact parents first, and secondary teachers will post office hours for students to contact them as needed.
By providing this continuous learning opportunity for all students, the district will not need to make up these missed days. This opportunity is voluntary for students and attendance will not be taken. Grades will not be given for any of this work with the exception of DMACC college classes and high school credit recovery courses.
If students return to school in May, attendance and grading will resume as normal, and the district will treat March 23 through April 30 as an extended break. If Governor Reynolds extends the closure through the end of the school year, the district will look at all options for end of the year grades at that time. The district says they will do everything possible to make sure all seniors have the chance to graduate.
The district continues to work on internet access options for families that need assistance. More specific information will be shared with those families next week. Any student can also access free wifi by sitting in the parking lot of any school or the administration building. School issued devices will connect automatically. Personal devices can also connect using the guest network.
