After bringing in a large recruiting class three years ago, the Simpson Storm softball team was looking to have an upperclassman heavy team, and one with a lot of experience. Head coach Brent Matthias tells KNIA Sports this year’s sophomores and juniors were some of the most experienced in the conference, and they had proven themselves on the field.

“We had started two years ago with a very young team, and we were excited for this season because of that, a lot of juniors on the squad this year. We had the expectation to compete for an American Rivers Conference championship. That’s how we started from day one, we had the talent with the returners and we felt like we had the best recruiting class at Simpson for a long time, so we were excited for a lot of those things, and we never go the chance to play any varsity games.”

The Storm graduated three seniors from this year’s team.
