Several projects are on the list of the transportation, maintenance, and technology departments of the Pella Community School District this summer. The Pella School Board approved budgeted items at their meeting this week. Many of the projects are related to keeping facilities up-to-date, with a refinish of gym floors, new plows, a new mower, a new four wheeler, and grading of the high school baseball and softball fields. Two new buses with seat belts and other vehicle fleet replacements were included for transportation updates. Updated servers, security enhancements, updated fiber, event production equipment, licensing agreements, and expansion of iPads to elementary students are among the priorities for technology. As part of the discussion, the board heard an update from Treasurer Mary Bogaard and Superintendent Greg Ebeling, who indicated major facility upgrades or renovations will likely be put on hold, as Ebeling believes a potential bond issue originally planned to go to voters this fall will be delayed due to ongoing uncertainty relating to the budget and the likely economic difficulties coming for the rest of the year. The summer Pella School District projects are funded by the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy and through sales tax.
