After a reset year where the Indianola baseball team won a Little Hawkeye Conference title and advanced to the substate final game with little to no returning players, the squad had high hopes for this season with experience on their side. With the recent cancellation of spring sports and closure of school facilities, it has been difficult for the boys of summer to get acclimated to a potential season, but the team’s coaching staff isn’t worried about the guys being ready to play if there is a season. Head coach Casey Aldridge tells KNIA Sports the coaching staff is just making sure the guys stay safe and hope they get a chance to play some ball.

“Being prepared for the season, being ready for the season, that is down a little on our list of concerns. I think right now as a coaching staff and most coaches around the state the biggest concern is our student athletes, and hopefully our seniors can get a season. They deserve an opportunity. We know that a lot of it is out of our control, but if we are allowed to have a season I am certain our guys will be able to get ready by keeping in shape despite no contact and no facilities. Being prepared if we have a season isn’t a concern, more how our student-athletes are doing and how they are hanging in there, that is our main thought.”

The Indians went 24-15 last season. A decision will be made by the IHSAA regarding the summer sports season on June 1st.
