Senior Nick Walker received the Central College men’s golf team’s Ryerson Most Valuable Player Award for the second time in three years. Awards were based on the team’s fall season campaign as the spring slate was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Walker, the 2018 MVP as well, was given the team’s Low Scoring Average Award, after posting a mark of 75.45 last fall, and received his fourth varsity letter. He tied for second at the Atlantic Invitational in Jupiter, Florida Oct. 28-29, finishing with a 4-under-par 68, the best score by a Dutch golfer since 2001.
Senior Eric Visscher received the Golden Putter Award as the team’s most improved player while Kyle Berst received the Wagner Award for outstanding contributions by a senior non-starter. Aidan Volmer was named the Most Valuable Freshman Award winner. Volmer posted a 79.25 stroke average, finishing second at the nine-team Ryerson Fall Classic at Pella Sept. 20-21. Seniors Dillon Peters and Kobe Rhodes served as team co-captains. Rhodes received his fourth letter and Peters his third. Second-year coach Mel Blasi awarded seven varsity letters.
