A Mahaska County woman has been charged with first degree murder.

According to the Mahaska County Sheriff’s office, police arrested 69-year old Carol Ann Davis of rural New Sharon Wednesday morning. The office released additional details today that indicate her husband Steve Davis, 55, died from a gunshot wound sometime Sunday morning. The responding deputy discovered Steve’s body in a bed at the home in rural New Sharon. The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny is conducting an autopsy.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted with the investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the New Sharon Police Department, the Oskaloosa Police Department, the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office, Mahaska County Emergency Management Agency, the Mahaska County dispatch center, and the Mahaska Health Medical Examiner.

Carol is being held on $1,000,000 cash only bond at the Mahaska County Jail.
