One of the most intriguing aspects of sports is the surprise of a team or individual rising to prominence. While the Pleasantville girls track and field team had a few events that were worthy of qualifying for state, there are a few that Head Coach Aaron Fichter said could have surprised some people, and now they won’t be able to see it play out.

“You have the things that you weren’t as certain, you were excited about. You have this group of kids and you want to see how they perform over the year and you’ve got new kids coming in and you want to see if they step up. All those things, maybe there’s something that would’ve surprised us. Maybe it’s the distance medley, maybe someone comes out in the 400. All those kind of things, I think there was some room for surprises, but you could see glimpses of it there with them. But we just didn’t have long enough to see those things take shape.”

The Trojans had three weeks of practice, as well as an indoor meet at the University of Northern Iowa before the season was put on hold and ultimately cancelled. Seven seniors will depart the program.
