The PCM senior track and field team members recently learned that their final seasons were cancelled. To help ease the pain and give perspective, the coaching staff invited Iowa track and field legend Mike Jay to a Zoom meeting with the seniors. Girls coach Eric Karr says that Jay offered a message of strength and mental stability while also promising that bigger and better things are ahead.

“The truth is right now that we can’t control what’s happening. His message was very much to stay positive, mentally strong to get through this. And as I told the girls, and Mike said the same thing, we’re not trying to downplay the disappointment of not having a season. Because it hurts, it really does. But I told them that at some point, and possibly soon, this isn’t going to be that big of a deal. I hate to break it to you ladies, but this won’t even make your top 10 of worst things that’s ever happened in your life. And if anything, this’ll make you stronger.”

A deep girls lineup was expected to compete at a very high level this season. The Mustangs will graduate 10 seniors.
