Central’s softball team succumbed to the consistent pressure applied by Illinois Wesleyan in the second round of yesterday’s simulated NCAA softball championship. The project is the brainchild of Central statistics professor Russ Goodman.
In the event, which includes the top eight teams in the computerized Massey Ratings, Goodman is simulating results based on mathematical algorithms.
Central, the eight-seed, fell 6-3 to the fourth-seeded Titans on an 88-degree rainy day in Tyler, Texas. Illinois Wesleyan scored one run in each of the first six innings to earn the victory.
The Dutch now fall into the elimination bracket, and must win three games today to advance to tomorrow’s best-of-three national championship series. You can follow along throughout the weekend at https://twitter.com/CentralsProfG
