After a longtime school record was broken in the 4×100 relay last year by the Indianola boys track squad, the team didn’t want to let it sit for another 30+ years unbroken, they wanted to break it again. The four-man relay team, Tryce Kirgan, Carter Erickson, Grant Hixson and Kolby Kolarik, would only lose Kolarik to graduation, but if the record was to be beaten there was a good chance the names wouldn’t have to change as sophomore Kael Kolarik set a goal to take his brother’s place and go at the record. He tells KNIA Sports he wasn’t even sure he wanted to go out for track.
“Coach got me to go out for track. I was skeptical at first, but then I decided to do it and go for the 4×100 team and break the school record again that I think was around 30 years old. The record was broken last year and I would have taken my brother’s spot and we were going to re-break the record. That was our goal and it would have been a lot of fun.”
The record currently sits with a time of 43.48 seconds
