The spring sports season ended early for NCAA schools, and the Central women’s tennis team lost a chance at potential greatness. The Dutch had beaten the powerhouse Coe program for the first time in 16 seasons, and were off to a 5-1 start to the spring season. Head Coach Ryun Ferrell says that his team improved greatly throughout the fall and early portion of the spring season, and they had the potential to take things to the next level this spring.

“As time went on, they played better and better. And by the end, they looked really good. And it’s just too bad. Earlier in the year, we beat Coe for the first time in 16 years, they were 5-1 in the spring. They took a lot of lumps in the fall. They’re extremely talented, but they just couldn’t quite figure it out, and they were figuring it out. Any tight match we had, we were winning and kind of thumping people, and it was great to watch. And that was a lot of fun. I think we had a real shot at doing something special in the spring.”

Only one senior departs the program, Knoxville alumnus Sami Thompson. A complete season recap interview with Coach Ryun Ferrell airs on tonight’s Central College Radio Coaches Corner, which begins at 7:00 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS.
