As high school athletes return to competition, they do as the first in the country, and could be an example of what sports can look like during a pandemic.
Chris Cuellar with the Iowa High School Athletic Association says patience from everyone involved is key — especially from parents and fans, as a true “normal” experience is unlikely to take place this summer.
From potential crowd-size restrictions, to a lack of concession stands, shortage of umpires, and some school districts opting out of competition, schedules may change, and some venues may not be able to support a typical summer baseball or softball crowd — and he says it’s extremely important to take care of all who are participating in the gameday experience.
