Marion County has had 70.9% of households respond to the 2020 census, which is the 5th best response in Iowa.
The state has seen 66.9% of citizens self-respond to the population count taken every ten years–which is 3rd best in the nation. All households received official Census Bureau mail in March with details on how to take the 2020 survey online, by phone, or by mail.
Currently, census takers are working with administrators at colleges, senior centers, prisons, and other facilities that house large groups of people to make sure everyone is counted. Starting today, additional workers will interview homes that haven’t responded yet, and will do so until August 14th.
The 2020 census will be delivered to the President and Congress this December, with redistricting counts sent to those tasked with drawing political boundaries by the end of March 2021.
