The high school summer sports season will be taking place, but it will have a different look and feel than in previous years. Nearly everything from practices to in-game procedures are going to be affected in some way. PCM Activities Director Greg Bonnett says that everything will happen with an abundance of caution, and cleaning things will be a common practice.
“There’s going to have to be a ton of cleaning products around, disinfecting things. I’m encouraging kids to have their own helmet, especially with our softball team, to not share those things. Make sure that everyone is keeping the proper distance at practices. At practice, you’re not allowed to use your dugout. During games, you’re still allowed to use your dugout. One of the things that everyone talks about, because it’s kind of a funny thing because it’s so directly related to summer sports, is there is no sunflower seed spitting. That is totally banned.”
Along with social distancing measures continuing to take place at practices and games as much as possible, players will all need to have their own equipment to the most reasonable extent possible. Practice is set to get underway on Monday, June 1st, with the first contests taking place on June 15th.
