Starting Monday, the summer sports teams of Iowa will resume practicing, with the aim of preparing for competition on June 15th. Pella Christian’s baseball team — despite losing multiple-time All-State player Will Dembski and multiple year starters Lawson Bruxvoort and Cole Webster, come back with a senior class of nine athletes and several juniors and sophomores who all saw time on the varsity field.
Head Coach Jeff Bruxvoort says that combination of talent and experience, and with an offseason of improvement, may make the team more balanced and ready for the challenges that lie ahead in a shortened season.
Among the key returning seniors in 2020:
Devin Haveman – 1B/P – Started all 32 games, hit .316 with 27 RBI and two home runs, 14 walks; 5-6 as a pitcher with a 3.46 ERA and 43 K in 60 1/3 innings pitched
Matthew Bokhoven – INF/P – Started 31 games, hit .245 with 16 RBI; struck out 23 batters in 30 innings
Jack Anderson – P – 3-1 as a pitcher, with a 4.15 ERA in 27 innings, including four starts
