When the summer sports season begins on Monday, several precautions and mitigation efforts will be in effect across the state. While the changes won’t necessarily be extensive, there are some differences that will be seen. Pleasantville baseball coach Sheldon Card lays out some of the protocols, but says it won’t prevent his team from having a good time this summer.
“We will temperature-check every student-athlete that comes to practice, and there’s a number of 100.3 that we would send them home and alert parents. No use of the dugout. We will do our best to keep them in small groups that the state recommended. Four to five people pods and keep those pods together so it’s the same groups. We’ll spend a little more time cleaning and disinfecting after practice is over. But other than that, hopefully the boys will get on the field and everything will cooperate, and everything will work out the way it’s supposed to.”
As of now, the West Central Activities Conference will start the schedule as-is on June 15th. The Trojans will travel to Van Meter that day for their first game of the season.
