The latest unemployment numbers have been released from Iowa Workforce Development, with Warren County sitting just below the state average of 10.7% at 9.6%. The 10.7% unemployment rate in the state marks a significant jump over the last several months, which was at 3.7% at the beginning of 2020, and well above the 7% mark of the spike in the last recession in 2008. The largest jump in initial claims rose from just over 2,000 on March 14th, to 40,000 the week of March 21st, and peaking at over 64,000 new claims the week of April 4th.
