Today is the first day of high school summer sports practices in Iowa. With various mitigations procedures in place, practices will look a bit different than normal. Typically, teams would have three weeks of preseason practices to get ready for a season, but this season there will only be two weeks. Pleasantville Baseball coach Sheldon Card says that despite fewer total practices, things may turn out better in the long run, as no spring sports athletes will have to miss practices.

“Usually we have three weeks of practice, but the multi-sport guys are only there for about half the time. With track, usually if we have 18 practices, the track guys will miss about eight or nine of them for track meets. Same way with the golfers. So we only get two weeks, but I feel like we might be prepped better by only having it be us, where we’ll see the same group of kids every day. So I’m really excited to see how that works.”

The first competition date is Monday, June 15th. Pleasantville will get their season underway that day at Van Meter.
