The Pella City Council will consider the first readings of two ordinances increasing water and wastewater rates at their meeting this evening.

The first ordinance would increase wastewater rates by 8% starting for usage in July, which is needed to fund $6 million in Iowa DNR mandated improvements at the current facility. The second would be a 5% increase in water rates to allow the city to purchase reverse osmosis membranes for regular maintenance. If approved, the increase would result in an approximately $2.56 monthly water increase for the typical residential customer and $4.39 additional per month for wastewater services.

Council will also set a public hearing to approve a contract for service line drops to homes for Pella Fiber and review resolutions to finalize $10.7 million in financing for the overall telecommunications utility project. Two memorandums of understanding will also be considered with the Pella Community School District and Central College for the schools to help develop dedicated channels for live events and activities to be broadcast throughout the academic year.

Following regular business, the council will review Airport Committee capital project priorities, as well as amended wage scales for city employees, health plan premiums, and a personnel policy manual update.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this meeting will be available electronically at 7:00 this evening.
