After 112 years a church near Knoxville has had some much needed additions completed. The Coal Ridge Church on S-71 near Whitebreast Beach Recreation Area recently added indoor restrooms as well as heating and air conditioning according to Eunice Folkerts with the church. Folkerts tells KNIA/KRLS News the addition came about after she was working in a storage closet on the east side of the building and realized the floor was close to giving way. She says at that moment she knew something had to be done. In addition to the floor giving way, Folkerts says the church was spending money on kybos as the church had no indoor restrooms and she says something needed to be done. She says once the decision was made to build the addition, she wanted to make sure the design fit in perfectly with the architecture of the building and she says she couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

Folkerts says with the addition of an HVAC system the church can now hold church service and fundraising events throughout the entire year. She says she was amazed at how simple the addition was but more grateful for the future opportunities the addition will provide for the church. According to Folkerts, the church holds a traditional service every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. through Labor Day. She says if anyone wants to help out or learn more about the church they can sign up in the church’s guest book, give the church a call or visit the Friends of Coal Ridge on Facebook.
