The Central softball team recently announced its team awards for the shortened 2020 season. Freshman pitcher Sydni Huisman was named the team’s Newcomer of the Year after appearing in four of the seven games.
Huisman’s career began with a phenomenal performance in the season opener in Rochester, Minn. vs. UW-Eau Claire. She pitched the complete game, giving up only six hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters.
Huisman earned her first career shutout against Transylvania in Tucson, Ariz. in only her second game in the circle. On the season, Huisman compiled an ERA of 1.50 and a pitching record of 3-1.
