pleasantville-3

When the 2020 season begins on Monday, the Pleasantville baseball team will enter its second season in the West Central Activities Conference. It’s a league that produced last season’s 2A state champion in Van Meter, as well as state tournament qualifier Des Moines Christian. Pleasantville was able to finish in fifth place with a 13-8 record, still in the top half of the standings. Head Coach Sheldon Card says it’s a top-heavy league, and he looks forward to the second season of competing against some of the best teams in the region.

“The league is very competitive, obviously having Van Meter win the state championship, you had Des Moines Christion who was in the state tournament. Woodward-Granger, who didn’t graduate many from their roster, who have a very successful program. Ogden is always athletic. Madrid, who is better and better every year in baseball. It’s a very top-heavy, loaded conference, and we’re just hoping to compete again and give everybody our best shot. Again we don’t play every one of those teams this year, but we’re still trying to work out some of those kinks. Last year we finished in the top half, and we just want to move up the ladder and keep competing.”

The conference elected to resume the schedule as-is on June 15th, meaning that not all conference teams will face each other, and no standings will be kept. The Trojans get the season underway on Monday at Van Meter.
