With less preseason time to prepare, it’s been up to seniors on baseball and softball teams to get younger athletes ready for a four week sprint of a regular season. River Baker is among six seniors trying to guide the Pella baseball team through two weeks of unique practice before games start on Monday.
Baker says he’s trying to be a resource to younger players missing out on valuable spring practice reps and early season games to adjust to the high level of competition in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
Baker hit .292 in 22 games in 2019, with 19 hits and 11 RBI, and will be a key returner in the Dutch outfield and lineup. Hear more from the Pella baseball seniors on tonight’s Radio Sports Page at 6 p.m., and listen to opening day coverage of Pella when they host Grinnell on Monday at 7:15 p.m. on KRLS3 at KNIAKRLS.com.
