The PCM baseball team both hosted North Polk Thursday evening, and it was the Comets who left Prairie City with the victory. North Polk took a 6-2 lead after the first inning, which set the tone for the 10-4 final. North Polk added one run in the third inning and three in the fourth, while PCM could only push two more runs across in the third to round out the scoring.
Caleb Duinink led the way with two base hits while Andrew Mitchell batted two runs in for the Mustangs. Mitchell was also the starting pitcher, going 2 ⅔ innings, giving up nine hits and two walks while striking out two batters. PCM falls to 1-2 on the season.
The PCM softball team was on the road to take on Roland-Story. Despite out-hitting the Norsemen 10-6, PCM was unable to hold onto an early lead in a 9-5 loss. The Mustangs scored four runs in the first two innings to take a 4-1 lead after two. But the offense was unable to carry that momentum. Roland-Story used a six-run fourth inning to take control of the game, as PCM was only able to score one run the rest of the way.
Sidney Shave and Riley Johannes each had two base hits. Johannes drove in three runs on a base-clearing double. The Mustangs left eight runners on base, and stranded the bases loaded twice. All nine of Roland-Story’s runs were unearned. The loss drops PCM to 1-3 on the season.
Both teams will have the rest of the weekend off before playing host to Gilbert on Monday.
