Critical errors cost the Pella Christian the chance to knock off the No. 8 ranked Woodward-Granger baseball team Saturday afternoon, as the Eagles fell 3-2.

All five runs in the contest came after defensive errors and were unearned. After both teams held each other scoreless through the first half of the game, the Hawks took advantage of two throwing errors in the bottom of the 4th to score first. The Eagles were able to bounce back in the top of the fifth with a balk bringing home Blake Veenstra to tie it at 1-1. Another P.C. fielding error allowed Woodward-Granger to take the lead again in the bottom of the 5th, only for Pella Christian to once again answer following a Hawks error to even the score at two.

After Pella Christian was cut down 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th on offense, another costly error allowed the winning run to score in the final frame, giving the No. 8 Hawks a walk-off winner.

Matthew Bokhoven tossed four innings of no-hit ball, striking out seven in the no-decision. Pella Christian falls to 1-4 and will try to bounce back with two against Indianola Monday. Hear the doubleheader live on 94.3 KNIA, also available on kniakrls.com and the free KNIA and KRLS mobile app.
