With the 4th of July just over a week away the Knoxville Police Department is wanting to remind residents of the current Knoxville city ordinance prohibiting the use of fireworks within city limits. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller tells KNIA/KRLS News fireworks that are currently allowed  in Knoxville include normal snakes and sparklers as well as anything that was legal in Iowa prior to the state legalizing fireworks in 2017.

Chief Fuller says his department will respond to every fireworks call they receive and it is the responding officers discretion as to the issuance of a citation. Chief Fuller says he expects more warnings to be written than actual citations but for the people who habitually defy the ordinance or do not listen to an officers warning will more than likely receive a citation which requires a court appearance.
