One day after celebrating at Principal Park and a road win at Grinnell, the Pella Christian baseball and softball teams were swept by Dallas Center-Grimes in a road doubleheader to finish a busy week of competition.
The Eagles baseball team fell 8-6 and 9-2, while the P.C. softball girls hung tight with the No. 3 in Class 4A Fillies, but ultimately fell 6-2 and 2-0.
Pella Christian committed to costly errors early in the softball opener that allowed the Fillies to pull ahead to a 4-0 advantage. The Eagles strung together a walk and three hits to produce two runs in the 5th inning with the top of the lineup, but were shut down over the last seven at-bats. The Eagles held serve with the formidable Fillies in game two before the home team scored twice in the 5th to earn the difference on the final score.
In both baseball games, the Eagles dug deep holes, falling behind 7-2 in game one and 8-0 in game two after just one inning, with several errors and walks allowing the home team Mustangs to take advantages they wouldn’t lose. While the Eagles pulled to within one run in the 4th inning of the opener, they couldn’t find the offense they needed in the later innings, while in the nightcap, they never recovered from the large deficit.
The Eagles are off from game action until they return to host Newton for single varsity games on Monday.
