The 2020 Iowa High School Baseball postseason begins today with first round action in Classes 1A and 2A. PCM begins action in 2A District 13 in State Center, in neutral site action against South Hamilton.

PCM enters with a 7-8 overall record, and is trending in the right direction at the right time of the year. The Mustangs have won four of their last six games, with one of those losses to ranked opponent Gilbert. The Hawks enter 7-7 overall, but won both games against PCM this season in convincing fashion. Head Coach Jeff Lindsay says that his team will need to put those two losses behind, and play the way they are capable of in a district that is relatively open for the taking.

“We already played South Hamilton this year and they kind of handled us, but we have to play them again. So hopefully we can come up with a different type of game and gameplan and be a different team. It’s going to be a tough, solid district, and I really, quite honestly, think it’s up for grabs for anybody.”

The Hawks defeated PCM 17-4 and 10-0 in the two meetings this season, but have lost two in a row entering the playoffs.

It’s a matinee affair in game one of a postseason doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the West Marshall baseball field in State Center. The winner advances to the district semifinal, which would be a true road game at Roland-Story.
