indianola-3

The Indianola baseball squad earned a split with #5 Sioux City East Tuesday evening, falling 9-3 in game one, then winning in comeback fashion in game two 9-6, while the Indianola softball team fell behind early to the Dodgers of Fort Dodge in their regular season finale Tuesday evening 4-1.

The Indians baseball squad fell behind 4-0 after the first inning, the 8-0 after the second in game one and could not recover, despite holding the Black Raiders to just one run the rest of the contest. Game two was the exact opposite for the Indians, as they quickly got ahead 2-0 after the first, eventually building a 6-1 lead going into the fifth. East fought back with a five-run bottom half of the fifth to tie the score at 6 apiece, but the Indians pushed across another pair of runs to take an 8-6 lead into the final frame, then added another insurance run in the 7th to take down the #5 ranked team in class 4A in their final regular season contest. The Indians boys end their regular season with an 11-12 record, and they will travel to WDM Valley for the first round of District action on Friday.

The Indians softball team fell behind 2-0 after the first inning, and the tough pitching and defense of the Dodgers gave the Indians batters fits. Indianola cut the deficit in half in the fourth pushing across a run after Destiny Lewis scored after taking advantage of several Fort Dodge errors, but despite threatening several more times throughout the game would not be able to push across another run. The Dodgers added two more insurance runs in the sixth to seal the win. The loss ends the Indians regular season with a 14-5 record, and they will next play in the regional final next Tuesday with an opponent yet to be determined.
