The Pleasantville baseball team has concluded the 2020 season after being eliminated from postseason play on Tuesday evening. While the Trojans didn’t pick up as many wins as they had hoped, the opportunity to play this summer was certainly well-received after the trials and tribulations of this past spring.
It was a rough opening week of the season for Pleasantville. The Trojans lost their first six games of the season, with all of them on the road. Two of those losses ended early due to the run rule. The streak was snapped with a 5-2 road win over Albia.
After a pair of conference losses, Pleasantville picked up what was likely the most solid game of the season with a 7-0 home victory over Interstate 35. The third win of the season came three games later, a 4-2 win over North Mahaska.
Pleasantville faced two of the state’s top ranked teams in the final three games of the season. The regular season finale was an 11-1 road loss to 1A #1 Martensdale-St. Mary’s. The Trojans opened the postseason with a 17-0 win over a struggling West Central Valley team. The season came to a close the following night with a 15-0 road loss to 2A #1 Van Meter.
In total, Pleasantville finished with a record of 4-14 overall and 1-7 in the West Central Conference. Eight seniors will depart the program.
