twin-cedars-vs-wayne

The class 1A #11 Twin Cedars Softball Squad for four innings was right with #5 Wayne, but four runs in the fifth by the Falcons was enough to push them over the hump and into the state tournament defeating the Sabers 5-1 last night in a class 1A regional final. The Sabers struck first when Caity Reed slugged a solo home run in the second, but Wayne responded with a run in the bottom of the second to tie the score. It stayed tied at one until the bottom of the fifth when Wayne loaded the bases on three consecutive singles, then back-to-back doubles put the Falcons on top for good. Twin Cedars Coach Zack Dunkin told KRLS Sports allowingWayne’s bottom of the order to get on base in the fifth was his team’s undoing.

Dunkin:
“We didn’t do that, she got on base, their number nine hitter got on base, and you’re just playing with fire with that line up, so that was really the swing of the game. Otherwise it was one-one until the fifth and we gave up four in that inning.”

The Sabers were limited to just two hits and struck out 12 times. Grace Bailey took the loss allowing five runs on nine hits, one walk, and struck out four. Twin Cedars finishes the 2020 season at 20-6, and loses two seniors Kaya DesPlanque and Caity Reed.
